This year’s National Prayer Breakfast

NAMIREMBE-KAMPALA: The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev DR Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has today hosted this year’s National Prayer Breakfast keynote speaker, ITI Catholic University’s Prof. Christiaan Alting Von Geusau, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Namirembe, Kampala.

Prof Christiaan who is also the President of the International Catholic Legislators Network was accompanied by his son Frederick Von Geusau and Hon David Bahati, the Minister of State for Industries and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the National Prayer Breakfast.

Archbishop Kaziimba commended the role of the missionaries in the development of the Church and the State.

“When Missionaries came to Uganda, they came for three things; Teaching, healing and preaching the gospel. They were able to build Mengo Senior School, Mengo Hospital and St Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe to achieve the above objectives respectively. These have greatly influenced the development of Uganda,” said Archbishop Kaziimba.

He added, “Since then, Church of Uganda has established 5,200 Primary schools, 640 Secondary Schools, 200 health centres and 5 universities. We have established a number of projects and we are now focused on self sustainably.”

He decried the rise in secularism, materialism, consumerism and liberalism which he said are the biggest threats to the Church and reiterated the Church’s stand of preaching the true gospel based on biblical scriptures.

Prof. Christiaan said he was pleased to learn of Church of Uganda’s strong stand on moral values, uncompromised gospel and collaboration with the government of Uganda to develop the country together.

He further noted that he was particularly happy that the Church is focusing on building self sustainability to avoid donor dependence and donor related challenges.

Hon. David Bahati said, this year’s National Prayer Breakfast will be held at State House Entebbe on Saturday 8th October 2022 under the theme, “Arise and Build” ( Nehemiah 2:18).
